Countdown to Christmas Day 9

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse: So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2: 6-7

Todays Goal: Todays Goal is to simple spend time in God’s house and give Him your worship and your time. Really listen to the message and think what it might mean to you. What is God trying to say to you today? Listen with your ears, and with your heart and open your mind to hear God’s voice speak to your soul. Have a wonderful time with God in His house today!

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup butter

6 TBSP sugar

6 TBSP brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup flour

1/ tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 cup (4 1/2 oz) chocolate chips

3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts (or if you don’t like nuts, I add this amount extra in chocolate chips)

Cream the butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla and blend well. Stir together the flour, baking soda, and

salt. Add to the creamed mixture and blend well. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop dough by tspfuls onto a cookie sheet, about 2″ apart.

Bake for 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the cookie sheet for a minute or two then transfer to wire racks to finish cooling.

Something Special to do:  Think old-fashioned today and get out some green and red construction paper and scissors and glue!!….Why? cause remember those old-fashioned paper chains you made when you were a kid? Well…..I think you get the picture! That’s right, cut some strips of paper and start connecting and gluing. Of course if you have kids, you wont feel foolish at all, but if you don’t… then try it and see if it doesn’t make you feel younger and maybe even relieve a little stress, cause you will probably start laughing about it. Then, you got it!!… hang them chains on the tree, or over a doorway or all over your house if you like. Make a fun time out of it and get some old pictures out and just reminisce! But relax and have fun!!

Countdown to Christmas Day 8

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse:  And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.  This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.  Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. Luke 2:1-5

Todays Goal: Todays goal is simple, Take a few minutes out of your day and visit someone who may be alone this year for Christmas. It doesn’t have to be for a long time, maybe for coffee, or offer to take some one shopping, or even visit an older person in the nursing home that could need cheering up. You could even just stop and say hi to someone you pass by in the grocery store.

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Sugar Cookies

2/3 cup shortening

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 egg

4 tsp milk

2 cups sifted flour ( 1 1/2 cups for drop cookies)

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

Mix all together

Roll or Drop

Bake at 350*F for 8-10 minutes on a greased baking sheet

Something Special to Do:

Since you are collecting these easy cookie recipes I have been posting, it could be a good idea to make a cookie recipe book. This can be an easy idea too, just get one of those inexpensive journals that you can write the recipes in. You can decorate the outside with some Christmas cutouts, or stamps or ribbons, or whatever your creative mind can think of!! You could even type the recipes on the computer, print them out, and attach them to the pages. It could be given as a gift for Christmas with some of the cookies you bake for someone special! Do you give cookies away as Christmas gifts?

Countdown to Christmas Day 7

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse:  When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.  When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. Matthew 2: 9-10

Todays Goal: Todays goal is to make a Christmas ornament and give it to a stranger, or someone you barely know. If you are totally uncrafty (if there is even such a thing!) then you could either give one you already have, buy one, or get someone to make one for you, but the point is to give it to someone you hardly or don’t know, and wish them a Merry Christmas. You could attach a Bible verse if you wish, or a sentiment wishing them God’s best. See, you never always know what a stranger may be going through in their life at this time of year, and you just may lift their spirits or encourage them just by being thoughtful in that little gift.

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Ginger Snaps

Combine 1 cup packed brown sugar, 3/4 cup canola oil, 1/4 cup dark molasses, and 1 egg; beat well. Stir together

2 cups flour, 2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp ground cloves, and 1/4 tsp salt.

Gradually blend into molasses mixture. Using about 1 TBSP for each, form into 1 1/4 ” balls. Roll in granualted sugar; place

2″ apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375*F for 10-12 minutes Makes 4 dozen.

Something Special to Do:

If you give away homemade cookies or candy and need a gift bag, well, you could make one…or two…or more!!! There are a couple of ways to do this: 1. you could use a brown paper lunch bag, cut out some cute things from old cards and glue them on, fold over the bag and add a sentiment to the top with a stapler, there are a few ideas on, 2. you could use plain colored gift bags and decorate them like Ally did at Rock Paper, Cricuit 3. or if you’re crafty and either have a cricuit or your like me and cut everything by hand, you could check out this video by Christina at Creations with Christina, and if you cut by hand then just use the ideas and your imagination as she shows you how to make this wonderfully cute bag!

If you have any great ideas on gift bag making, I would love to hear about them, please share!!! Thanks, and have a wonderful day.

Countdown to Christmas Day 6 & I apologize for being late today

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse:  Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.  And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” Matthew 2:7-8

Todays Goal: Todays goal was to take a ride just to look at Christmas lights this evening! I love Christmas lights and it is so fun to just take a few minutes to drive around your town and look at the lights people put up. It’s also a great way to spend a little time with family apart from always being in a hurry to get somewhere. This way you get to take your time and admire the lights! If you see some you especially like, pull over and just sit and stare!! I know I posted this a little late in the day today, but maybe some of you will get to check them out, or maybe you can add it in on another day.

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Chocolate No Bakes

2 cups sugar

1/3 tsp salt

1/4 pound butter

6 TBSP cocoa

1/2 cup milk

Boil 1 minute – full rolling boil

Take off heat

Stir constantly while cooling for 5 whole minutes (This is a must and the trick to making these come out right)

Add 3 cups quick oatmeal and

1 tsp vanilla

Stir good

Drop on waxed paper

Something special to do:

One thing that makes your Christmas gift just a tad more special, if not a lot more special, and that is to make your own gift tags!! They are fun and they can be simple or elaborate. I made a few to give away along with some cards in a gift box, and they were simple. Here is a link to download some: Delightful Order and here are a few more ideas on tags:

  IMG_5596b DSC_6090.1 and my favorite:

Have you ever made your own gift tags? How did you make them? and were they Christmas tags? Have a wonderful day and again, I apologize for being so late today.

Countdown to Christmas Day 5

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse:  When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.  So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:  ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ Matthew 2:3-6

Todays Goal:  Todays Goal is to set aside a little time to remember someone who you know is needy, and to pray for them. If you think about it closely, you will realize that at this time of year there are people who are really needy. I am talking about people who could be needy because they are poor financially, or they are alone at this time of year, maybe someone who recently lost a loved one and this will be their first Christmas without them, maybe someone you know recently lost their job, or even hours at work. There are people who get depressed during this time of year because of some past issue and need a little encouragement. So, today, take a few minutes and pray for that person, God will hear and answer!!

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Okay, so it’s not a cookie recipe again, but it is just as good, and that is ….yep, fudge!!

Peanut Butter Fudge

1 pound butter

2 cups creamy peanut butter

8 TBSP cocoa

8 tsp. vanilla

2 pounds powdered sugar

Melt butter and peanut butter until smooth over medium heat.

Remove from heat and add cocoa and vanilla. mix this until well blended, then gradually add powdered sugar.

Mix until well blended. Spread in greased 9×13″ pan. Let is become completely cold, then cut into desired pieces.

Makes about 5 pounds

Something Special to Do:

Prayer Cards. These are easy and sometimes better than an overwhelmingly long list, we should keep lists too, but prayer cards can be put in various places or carried with you. Sometimes with a list I only get so far down it, but with prayer cards, you can shuffle them where you may get to everything on the list throughout the day. You can also share them with your family to pray too. They are easy to make and there are different ideas on making them. The important thing is what you put on them. On the top write the topic, next a little about the person or situation that needs prayer, then write a short verse to remind you that God is interested in answering your prayer. At the bottom, when the prayer is answered, say so, then keep the answered prayer cards in a box, or little file box, or someplace that you can pull out later when you want to be reminded of all that God does. A couple of ideas for the cards are 1. plain old index cards!! 2. Those strips of paint samples you get when you are trying to decide what color paint you want to use. 3. Use some card stock and cut your own in various colors. 4. At Christmas time you could even use the back of Christmas gift tags!! Use your imagination, but the point is to pray more!! How do you keep track of prayers?! Let me know, I would love to hear your comments! Have a wonderful day!!

I won!!! I am so excited!!! Yeah!!!!!

Countdown to Christmas Day 4

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Todays Verse: Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,  saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:1-2

Todays Goal: Todays goal is to make a Christmas Card list and a gift list. Write a list of all the people you want to give a card to. If you have started making out your cards, include those names too and put a check next to the ones that are done. Then after you have those lists made out, go over them again to make sure you didn’t miss anyone. Okay, did you include, your spouse, family members, Pastor and his family, the mailman, friends, maybe your hairdresser, church family, your in-laws, and anyone else that might be encouraged by you sending them a Christmas card. You can do the same with a gift list as well. Christmas cards make people smile and I don’t know anyone that doesn’t look forward to getting them, so happy carding!!!!

Todays Cookie Recipe:

Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 tsp baking soda

2 TBSP hot water

3/4 cup peanut butter

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

3 cups flour

1 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients together. Roll in small balls and press down with a fork, and bake at 325*F for 15-20 minutes

Something Special To Do:

Speaking of Christmas Card Lists!!! This is a project you could do to keep a running list for more than just one year. You could make if for as many years as you would like. You could buy one, or you could make one. Here are some ideas for making one:

Name & Address                                                    Sent/Received                 Sent/Received

* As above, you could use a regular lined notebook and draw columns leaving 3 – 4 lines for each address in the first column, then make as many columns as years and label each column at the top as “sent” (you could do a received column too if you wish). You could decorate the cover if you wanted to also. You just put check marks under sent and received when it is so.

*you could use a 3 ring binder and download a printable to put in the binder and decorate the cover.  Below is a couple of sites you could download free printables for this. There are many out there but this is a couple of places I found.

Scattered Squirrel           My Paper Crafting Obsession                Handmade Holidays through the year                 Organized Christmas

It is just an idea to help keep you organized, in the past I personally just wrote a list and used my address book to send my cards, but I always missed someone, so this year I am doing the address book and card tracker in one, as above. I am using a notebook and drawing my own lines! How do you keep track? I would be interested to know, leave me a comment and give me ideas!!! Love ideas!!! Have a great day, I hope you are enjoying the countdown so far!!!??!

Countdown to Christmas Day 3

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Today’s Verse: Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,  25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son And he called His name Jesus.  Matthew 1:24

Today’s Goal: Today’s goal is to go outside and just play! Play with your kids or a pet or your spouse. Just have some simple fun for an hour and “be a kid”. Remember what it was like to go out and not worry about anything, and you could just play in the sun, or the snow, or even in the mud?!!! If you physically are unable to do this, then I encourage you if you can to maybe go outside and watch some kids playing or a pet running around, or even just sit and watch some birds. The point is to take your mind off troubles for 1 hour and just relax. You could think about the fun times you have had with your kids or pet or your spouse, remember all the wonderful things God has done in your life that has made you smile! Even just getting out for some fresh air and relaxing will help clear your mind. Have a wonderful break!

Today’s Cookie Recipe:

Oatmeal Scotchies

2 cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar

2 eggs

1 TBSP water

1 1/2 cups quick oats, uncooked

1 (12oz) pkg (2 cups) butterscotch morsels

1/2 tsp orange extract

Pre-heat oven to 375*F. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt, set aside.

In a large bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, eggs and water; beat until creamy. Gradually add flour mixture. Stir in

oats, butterscotch morsels and orange extract. Drop by slightly rounded TBSPfuls onto greased cookie sheets, for

10-12 minutes. 48 cookies

Something Special to do: You could start a Christmas memory book. Like a journal, but only for Christmas. It could be a scrapbook, or a photo album, or just a plain old notebook, something to record into each day, what Christmasy (there’s that word again!) thing happened for that day. If your crafty you could cover your notebook and make it personal, using anything Christmasy! It’s up to you, but you could keep it and each year add another Christmas to it, and then each year look back on the year before and Whalla! you have a new tradition and wonderful memories.

Just an idea! Let me know what you think? What would you put in a Christmas Memory Book??!!

Countdown to Christmas Day 2!!!!

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Today’s verse: And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”  So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:  “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1: 21-23

Today’s Goal: Today is the Lord’s Day! Today’s goal is to go to church and really worship God in a heartfelt way. Many times we go to church just because it’s the “right” thing to do, and it is, but it is also a place to connect with God along with fellow believers. So today when you are in church and singing praises to your Savior, really concentrate on the words of the songs and what they mean to your heart. You may be surprised at how blessed you feel. Oh, and on your way out the door, tell the Pastor you appreciate him, he will be blessed when you do!!

Today’s Cookie Recipe:

Peanut Blossoms

1  3/4 cup flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 egg

2 TBSP milk

1 tsp vanilla

48 candy kisses

Combine all ingredients except candy in a larger mixing bowl. Mix on lowest speed until dough forms.

Shape dough into balls, roll in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375*F for 10-12 minutes.

Top each cookie immediately with candy kisses, press down so cookie cracks around the edge.

Something Special to do:

I saw an idea somewhere that is especially nice to do with the whole family, kids, and or just with your spouse. That is to have a candlelight dinner at least twice a week through this Christmas Season. Set the table all Christmasy (is that a word?!), and light candles during dinner and talk about wonderful things that make each one smile. Leave the trials and hardships for later, and just enjoy the company of each other while eating dinner by candlelight. See if it doesn’t make your evenings a little more special this season.

Don’t forget the advent wreath if you’re celebrating it. If you are reading this for the first time and are wondering about the advent wreath, please go to my last post and you will find the spot that tells all about it.

What ideas have you been working on for this Christmas season? Please feel free to comment. I really enjoy them. Have a wonderful Lord’s Day and remember He is the Reason!

This is a wonderful blog hop and it has so many inspiring ideas in it. Check it out!!!

Countdown to Christmas Day 1!!! Here we go…..

Jesus is the reason for the season words

Today’s Bible Verse: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.   Matthew 1:18-20

Today’s Goal:  Organize your plans for this wonderful Christmas season. While organizing all you would like to do and see happen, don’t forget to take a little time with the Reason for the season and ask Jesus to be with you in all that you do. He will help you, all you have to do is ask. We wouldn’t have a true Christmas in the first place without Him. I write lists, it’s what I do to get organized, it doesn’t mean it’s in stone but it helps me kind of stay on track and also gives me other ideas as I read my list over. I would like to 1. finish all my handmade Christmas cards 2. Be ready for our Christmas program at church 3. make cookies for Christmas presents 4. Sing lots of Christmas songs 5. Play lots of Christmas music on the piano. 6. Enjoy each day without getting stressed about all I have to do….Now, I can’t do this one on my own for sure!!!! and many other things. What is on your list for some of your plans?

Today’s Cookie Recipe:

Well, it’s not a cookie but it’s close!!! Gotta have fudge at Christmas! What would Christmas be like without Fudge???!!!!  This is an easy recipe, you really can’t mess it up!

Quick Nut Fudge

1 pound powdered sugar

1/2 cup cocoa

1/4 tsp salt

6 TBSP butter

4 TBSP milk

1 TBSP vanilla

! cup chopped walnuts

Put all ingredients except nuts in a double boiler. Stir until smooth. Stir in nuts.

Spread in buttered 9×5″ pan. Cool.

Cut in squares.

Double the recipe for a 9×13″ pan

Best kept in the fridge!

Something Special to do: Now I also want to share something really special that you can do to celebrate Christmas. An advent wreath. I found a wonderful description on a friends blog, and I would like to share it with you. Please go Teaching What is Good, and Kate has a wonderful post about it that explains it so much better than I can. It is new to me and this year I am going to add this to my traditions. It is such a blessing to worship God in this way. It is not a hard thing to do and Kate has a PDF file that she shares on the schedule and verses for the advent wreath. Thank you Kate for sharing your post. Please go and check it out, maybe you will want to do this as well.

This is just the start of the Countdown to Christmas here on Correna’s thoughts. I hope you come back each day and I hope my ideas give you ideas, and if they do you can always share them with me, I love to get comments and build friendships. Have an absolutely wonderful Christmas season this year. God bless you as you enter His reason for the season.

I WON!!!!

Yeah, yeah, I know, you already know that!! but I am so excited I can’t help it!!! Have a wonderful day! God bless you!

Stay Tuned…….

This is just a quick post, because I have been so busy today, I didn’t get a chance to write more and I am so tired, so I am off to bed. But a quick post to let you know I have plans for a Christmas Countdown, starting Saturday, Dec. 1. My countdown of 24 days will include a cookie recipe everyday, some traditions, advent stuff, ideas for all things Christmas, and other wonderful things having to do with Christmas. So, get ready and countdown with me. I would love to hear any ideas you all have too, please comment any time you wish! Thanks, and have a great day.

Christmas!!!!! is Coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, I know, you already are aware of Christmas coming, but, IT REALLY IS ON ITS WAY!!!!

Cards to make!!  Gifts to make!! Cookies to bake!! Sunday School Programs to rehearse!! Christmas Ladies Party to get ready for!! More cookies to bake!! Piano music to practice!! Dinners to plan!! Decorating to do!! Christmas lights to light!! Did I mention Cookies to bake?!!

I will never get everything done if I don’t take time everyday with the Reason for Christmas in the first place – JESUS!!!! I love Christmas, it is such a wonderful time of year (if you stay out of the stores anyway!) I love being at home and making cards, and gifts and COOKIES!! I will start adding cookie recipes soon. I love the anticipation of all the church gatherings during Christmas. I also make the cake for our Christmas Program, it is a tradition my mom started a long time ago, we call it A Happy Birthday Jesus Cake!! Love doing that too. I have been entering card challenges, and even tho they don’t all ask for Christmas I make the challenge a little more of one and am making them all Christmas if possible. If you would like to see them, just go to the top under Card making and check them out!! Would love to hear your opinion on which ones you like! One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season is to ride around just looking at the lights people put up. That is a tradition my husbands parents have always done and when I met up with Scott, they took us too, now we do it as well ourselves. It’s just exciting to me and relaxing at the same time. What is one of your favorite things to do during Christmas???? I say one, because I am sure you have many as I do. Please leave me a comment about what you like to do, one, more than one, or as many as you like. I would love to hear from you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Thanksgiving here in America:

The Pilgrims, who came to America for religious freedom, proclaimed a special three-day celebration of thanksgiving following their first successful harvest. They viewed that year’s bounty as an act of Divine Providence in their lives.

Later, the Continental Congress set aside a national day of Thanksgiving following a major victory in the War for Independence.

One of George Washington’s first acts as President of the United States was to proclaim a national day of Thanksgiving. Other U.S. Presidents also proclaimed a special day of Thanksgiving, but it was President Abraham Lincoln who set it as the fourth Thursday of November. On October 3, 1863 President Lincoln issued a proclamation calling for a National Day of Thanksgiving. After citing the many blessings given to the nation in the midst of the Civil War, Lincoln wrote:

“No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. …I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”

Each of Lincoln’s successors has followed his example, calling for a Day of Thanksgiving each year of their presidency up to President Franklin Roosevelt. FDR then made it a permanent annual holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

days 23, 24,and 25 of giving thanks and planning

3 thanks and the 25 Days of Thanks will be finished for me as far as posting anyways, but I will not stop giving thanks to God each day in my life and in my prayers and you never know, you may see more thanks postings in the future anyways! First I am thankful for Kate at Teaching What is Good, and her encouragement to join her in her 25 Days of Thanksgiving quest. It was the best idea this season and it has opened my eyes to all the little things as well as the big things that God gives me in my life. So thank you Kate! I am thankful for the music and the talent God has given to Christian Singers, I was blessed to hear two concerts this weekend, one was with Laura Hawthorne whom I just heard for the first time and the other was with Jay Witham whom I have heard many times. I realize I have mentioned music before in these thanks posts, but I just can’t seem to get enough “good” Christian music! And finally I thank God for simply being God, our Awesome Creator and Provider and Comforter and Shepherd and Master and Good and Peace and King and Strength and Almighty and Healer and Righteousness and Most High and Wonderful and……  God is God! Praise Him!

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! … Psalm 150:1-6

day 22 of giving thanks and getting ready for the weekend

Today I am thankful for quiet days and peaceful skies. It looks like it is going to storm early every morning, but then the sky clears and it turns out clearer. It is cold but quiet. It seems the leaves have mostly all fallen and are just waiting for the snow to cover them. Among all the chaos of getting ready for Thanksgiving, it is nice to have a quiet day and contemplate the gifts God has already given me.

I will be getting ready tomorrow to go to church Sunday, as you already know, we drive 45 min to church every weekend, so we don’t want to be forgetting anything! I am cooking goodies to take with me this time, like a Thanksgiving cake, an apple pie, coleslaw and a crock pot full of corn because you see this Sunday we are having our Thanksgiving Harvest Dinner in the afternoon and then we will be having a concert by Jay Witham. It will be a great time of fellowship and I am looking forward to it.

On a creative note: I have been making cards again and have entered 3 more challenges and the posts are above in the card making tab where you can see them better and the links, But I will show you the cards here too:

This is a wonderful and simple way to make someones day better, including your own. Please check it out and comment on her post if you wish.

Good Deeds Are Easy

In the comments concerning “Just a simple Thank You,” michelleatplay and Bren both point out that saying “I’m sorry” is a comparable good deed.

What an excellent observation!

It occurs to me that “I’m sorry” like “Thank you” is a public admission of humility. It is a bow to the person addressed.

In the case of “I’m sorry,” the acknowledgement that one did a wrong thing can be very difficult. The expression of remorse deepens the bow.

Not saying “I’m sorry” has a tendency to sour human relationships. Feelings of resentment and hurt grow on one side, and guilt and stubbornness on the other. Which is unfortunate. Because the majority of wrongs in life are small things that are magnified unnecessarily.

The lives of people shouldn’t be so clouded by hurt.

Saying “I’m sorry” often seems to work like magic. Hurt feelings vanish in a flash. Relief and compassion rush…

day 21 of giving thanks and cleaning

Today I am thankful for God’s grace and patience with me. It seems like there is always something to decide and I am thankful that God has His hand on my life and shows me when I make mistakes and has the patience to let me ask for His guidence when I realize thats why I made the mistake in the first place. God’s love has no end!

Just a quick post, I spent time doing some fall cleaning and I am pretty tired tonight.

day 20 of giving thanks and entering challenges

Today is a beautiful sunny day out, it is cold, but the sky is so blue and I am thankful for it. I tell my Sunday School class that to kinda get the idea of what forever is, to go out and look up into a clear blue sky and try to find the end!! They are amazed, and it gives them something to think about because forever is well “FOREVER” and we need to know where we will spend eternity. Jesus gave us the blue sky, the rainbows, all His creation, and best of all Salvation to spend “forever” with Him in Heaven. All we have to do is ask. Have you asked?

Today I entered a couple of card challenges. I entered “Snowman Merry Christmas” in the Try Stampin on Tuesday Challenge.

I also entered “Joy for Christmas” in the Merry Monday challenge at Always Playing with Paper.

If you click on my Card Making Tab on top you can see the full post about each one. But I will show you here the cards I made for these 2 challenges.

day 16, 17, 18, and 19 of giving thanks

Wow, again, this time 4 days of giving thanks. I was away a couple of days and have been trying to catch up on some things so I am now going to catch up on my giving thanks days! Well, for starters I am thankful for this time of year where we can celebrate the season with thanks and giving and of being blessed. It is nice to be able to give to others and say thank you to those who do for us as well. Secondly I am thankful for communication and the times I can spend with those who mean so much to me, and reach out to those who don’t live so close. Thirdly, I am thankful for the music God has put in my life, I really enjoy hearing Christian music and praising the Lord by playing the piano, listening to my husband play the trumpet and others who sing in our church. And last but not least I am thankful for this blog where I can express my thankfulness about these things and I have a place where I can share of myself. I thank those who read my blog and comment and “like” what they read, Thank you.

Our Thankfulness Wreath | Passionate Homemaking

I just wanted to share something that I found, that would be a wonderful project for Sunday School, or kids at home! What a great idea to use during the holidays.

day 15 of giving thanks and spices

Sometimes it’s hard to narrow it down, when I start thinking about what to be thankful for. There are so many things that could be said, so today I am thankful for the little things. Things that we sometimes take for granted, or we think aren’t that significant, or no one else would care about, but we should say thankyou anyway. So I am thankful for things like: running water, the sunshine, electricity, pets, ice cream, computers, measuring cups and spoons, washing machines, flowers, food, my piano, dishes, a bed, chocolate, car, stove, ice cream, and so many other little things, oh, did I mention ice cream?!!!?!! Any way, God provides all things and I am thankful!

Today I am trying to organize a little. Scott put in a new outlet in the kitchen for me and put up a counter shelf as well. I don’t have much counter space and it drives me crazy, we still have to renovate our kitchen but haven’t gotten to it yet, so a temporary counter shelf is going to help a lot. I want to rearrange my cupboards so they make more sense and things are handier. The hardest time I am having is trying to figure out how to organize my spices, I have a lot of them and I have them in a cupboard, but I have to dig for them all the time. Any suggestions, how do you organize your spices? I would love to hear from you. I really enjoy reading answer your comments and I will answer them, so let me hear from you. Have a great night everyone.

day 14 of giving thanks

This is a short post today. I am just thankful today for today! Today the weather is cold and windy and gloomy and I am not feeling very well but, I realize I still was given today to give praise to God even if is for just today.

day 12 and 13 of giving thanks and planning`

Okay, time is going by a little fast, I just realized I missed posting yesterday!! So, today I once again have two thanks to give. Well first I am thankful for my faith in God, a saving faith that I know that I will go to heaven someday because I have trusted Jesus as my Saviour and He lives in my heart and will never leave me because He has promised that in Deuteronomy 31:6 -“Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” and in Hebrews 13:5 -6 “Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. So we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper: I will not be afraid, What can man do to me?” The second thing today I am thankful for is hope in God. We cannot possibly put all our hope in man, government, or possessions, but we can always hope in God. God cares about us, He watches closely over each person. Through Him we can find rest in spite of the catastrophes that harass our world. He offers us a place to stand, and hope, even in an apparently lost world. He offers a new beginning to those of us who trust in Him. I am thankful that God never turned me down when I went to Him for salvation and He is always there for me now, even in the hard times I can count on God for help and hope.

Well, I am making my grocery list today and trying to make a plan for Thanksgiving Dinner, I am not real good at making menu plans, I want to and think about it often but for some reason I never can figure out exactly where to start. So any ideas would be great! I read lots of Menu Plan Mondays that people put out but I don’t know the strategy behind doing it myself.  I generally look in the fridge and think “what can I make for dinner tonight” and I tend to do that about an hour before dinner. I know, not good, most of the time I forget to take something out of the freezer before hand so I have to use the microwave to thaw something out, and I HATE using the microwave! I would like to plan for a month because I generally shop for the month, but I need to think about Thanksgiving too this time. I am trying to eat healthier too, so I have to take that into consideration. I like making lists but that’s about as far as I get. I love looking at all the recipes “I want to try” and plan on trying but never doing cause I have no plan. Ugh! Well anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great, and I would very much appreciate them. Have a great day!

My Time Made Easy Challenge Entry

This is the card that I am entering the The My Time Made Easy Pretty Pallette Challenge #74. The colors for this challenge are White, red, gray and black.

day 10 & 11 of giving thanks and catching up

Two days today! That means two thanks today too! I thank God for safe traveling and for warm houses! We go every weekend to church about 40 to 45 minutes away from here, and every now and then we stay over night. My mom lives there so we stay with her. I am thankful that God keeps us safe as we travel back and forth. As the days are getting more and more chilly I am thankful that we have a warm house and that the heat works in our jeep! I think of the many lives that don’t have the basics and I am thankful today for what we take for granted, the little things, like heat!! and safety!!!

When I came home last night I went right to bed as I was so tired but I got up this morning to check my emails and found I had won a give away for coconut oil!  from Two Saucy Sisters. They have a really neat blog, check them out, I am sure you will like them. They give a lot of great ideas on recipes, and lots of them, they create themselves! I am so excited because 1. I have never won anything before and 2. I have been wanting to try the coconut oil, but wasn’t sure which brand to buy and it seems quite expensive in our area. So this is so cool! I have so many things to do before Thanksgiving and walking into my messy house last night made me realize I need to get moving on my projects for the holidays!! What projects are you working on for the holidays??!

Giveaway Winner!

Giveaway Winner!. I won!! Yeah, They picked me!! I am so excited.

day 9 of giving thanks and the weekend

Today I am thankful for the encouragement of others. I need encouragement, I think everyone does, just to know someone is thinking about you, or praying for you, or cheering you on. Life is filled with so many concerns and things that have to be done, and we can’t always do things by ourselves. It is always a blessing to me when someone just says a kind word, or tells me they praying for me or says “you can do it’! I came across a blog the other day called Good Deeds Are Easy and it got me thinking about how encouraging doing something nice for someone can be. I have been encouraged many times and have overlooked it, not on purpose, just so busy I didn’t notice right away. I need to stop and thank those who encourage me, after all they took the time out to do so, and I should take the time to do likewise. So to all who have taken the time to encourage me, THANKYOU!!! If you go to the Good Deeds Are Easy blog, you can find lots of ideas on how to make someones day better, check it out, you may find some refreshing new ideas, or reminders of stuff you have done before and want to do again. I am not sure where she stands with God but she is absolutely right on target with how we should treat others. Great ideas there.

Well, today I am off to Warrensburg for the night. Our ladies meeting at church for filling the children’s Christmas boxes is tonight and my brownies turned out awesome (maybe I should just say great, only God is awesome!), but it is a great recipe anyway. My cake turned out good for the going away time for our church pianist and the cookies turned out really good too for children’s church, but I still can’t find where I got the recipe so I havent put it up yet, but I promise when I find it, I will post it, cause they are really good and really easy! I wont be able to post tomorrow but I will be back on Monday. Have a great weekend my blogger friends. Whats on your weekend plans?

day 8 of giving thanks and baking

Today I am so thankful for my very understanding husband, Scott. He is a major blessing to me. When I have trouble with flashbacks, and other emotional issues, he is always right there to listen and support me. He is never critical and never looks the other way, he just encourages me in all things. God has given me a whole new life and new start with a man who loves the Lord and is so supportive of me. So thank you God for my very loving and caring husband, I love him very much.

Well, today is baking day!! I am baking a farewell cake for our piano player at church, who is moving away next week. We are having a family night Sunday night and refreshments after to wish him well. I am also baking a batch of brownies for our ladies group at church for tomorrow night while we box up the children’s boxes for the Christmas Child project. The brownie recipe I am using is here. I will then make cookies for my children’s church group on Sunday. I am making Chocolate WOW cookies and for the life of me I cannot find where I got the recipe from, If anyone has seen it recently on a blog, please let me know, and as soon as I find the one I copied I will post it in my recipes and give credit to the right person. I saw it on one of the blogs I follow, but forgot to write it down. Have a great day!

day 7 of giving thanks and busy, busy, busy

Today I am thankful for the peace of knowing that God hears our faintest cries and is always with us. No matter what comes our way, whether it be physical pain, emotional heartache, loss of someone we love, financial struggles, valleys, just difficulties with life even, happiness, laughter, good times, mountains, success, we can know that God sees all, hears us when we are sad or happy and knows what we need before we even ask. But ask, we do because He does want to hear from us. So today I am thankful that I can talk to God anytime and He will hear me and answer me.

Heather over the The Welcoming House has started a month of thankfulness as well, and it would be great to check her blog out too. She has a really nice blog and lots of things to enjoy, she is a good writer and has good insight. So take a minute and see what she has written today!

Well from here on out through the holidays we will all be busy, busy, busy. Planning Thanksgiving meals, finishing putting up all those wonderful fall goodies we get from gardens and farmers stands and what not, making Christmas cards, making Christmas gifts, planning Christmas parties. This weekend the ladies in our church are putting together our Christmas Child gift boxes to be sent out, we are having a family night on Sunday at our church, we also have a harvest supper coming up the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we have Christmas Sunday School programs to develop, along with everyday stuff…cooking, cleaning, decorating for the holidays, and if when it snows, we will have those chores too. I am sure I have not covered all the busy stuff we will all do, but you get the idea. So, bring it on holiday season, we are ready (hopefully) for you!!!!   What’s on your busy schedule?

day 6 of giving thanks and updates

Today, even tho, I dont care for the rain, I am thankful that God controls the weather. I am thankful that we are safe, and I pray for those that have been hit hard by this storm. This is rain here, wind and rain, I am thankful it is not a blizzard with so much snow you can’t get out. God know what we need, all we need do is ask, He promises to provide what is best for those who believe in Him. So I am also thankful for His promises. My friend saw a rainbow yesterday, what a great reminder of the promise God made not to flood the whole earth at one time again. So I thank God for his control over the weather!

Update:  Scott was able seal our roof yesterday while the rain stayed away, it started raining this morning again and NO LEAKS! Praise God.

I finished making the applesauce, the apple pie filling, and the apple butter is in the crockpot today!

The thing is, I still have 1/2 bushel of apples, but, half of them will be just sliced up, blanched and frozen, while I try to figure out what to do with the rest. Any suggestions?

New Blog: I started a new blog to go along with this one, but it is just recipes, I am in the process, and it will be slow at first, but I will be posting all the recipes I have ever made, want to make or will make on that blog. If the recipe came from a known source, it will be noted on that recipe, and if it is a link, I will post it there too. If you go to my recipes on this blog, it will link you to that blog Correna’s Recipes , eventually that is where all of my recipes will be, but I will always have a link to it from here. Don’t mind the look, I am still trying to figure out which theme I really want. I hope this makes sense. Check it out and let me know what you think! Have a great day.

Christmas Mini Album

Christmas Mini Album. This is such a good idea and I am definately making one of these for a gift. Please head on over to Paper Craft Nut blog, you will love her stuff. She has great ideas and lots of inspiration! You won’t be disappointed. She has a link to show you just how to make this, and while you are there, check out her other posts too!! Have a great day.

day 5 of giving thanks and apples!

Today I am thankful simply for another day, and yet it is not as simple as all that, or it shouldn’t be. God created this day unique, unlike any other. He has sustained the heavens and all things growing, the stars and planets are all still in their places. God with His Words , in the beginning spoke everything into place and has kept His promises and has kept everything in the universe in perfect balance. So I am thankful for TODAY! for This is the day that the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it! Amen?

Well, today is apple day, I am hoping to get my applesauce made today and maybe some other apple stuff too, we shall see! I found an easy way to do the applesauce, in the crock pot. I posted it in my recipes under crock pot. I will probably can some of the applesauce tomorrow.  I am also planning on making applebutter and I found that recipe here:, great site, lots of recipes. I am also going to make some apple pie filling which I found here:, except I am not using corn starch, white sugar, or reg. salt, I will use tapioca flour, organic sugar, and sea salt. And one more thing, I want to simply freeze some apple slices plain, for other recipes later, in that case I will just blanche slices for about 3 min. then freeze them as well. Well I better get busy. Hope you all have a great day! Let me know what you all do with apples. I am looking for lots of apple recipes!!

day 4 of giving thanks and stories

I have just finished reading this mornings post from Teaching What is Good and I encourage each one who reads this today to please go and read her post and stories as well. She has a brilliant way of sharing how God blesses us each day and how He has changed her life. I am thankful for finding her blog and for her idea to do these thanksgiving posts.

Today I am giving thanks for God’s provision of friendships. I have a very close friend and aunt by marriage who has been such a blessing in my life and I can’t thank her enough for her friendship and her kindness to me. She is a quiet and loving person who takes time to listen and share and give of herself. She is a wonderful person and everything a great friend can be. Thank you Maxine, for being my aunt, my other mom, my sounding board, my encourager and my friend. You have blessed my life.

If you have a good friend, and they are rare these days, I encourage you to tell them what they mean to you.  Have a great day 🙂

ps. Thank you Castle of Blue for telling me how to do smiley faces on here!!! 🙂   🙂 You are a blessing too!

day 3 of giving thanks, and chili

“This could be the dawning of that day!”

We had a wonderful day at church today. I am very thankful for the church my husband and I go to, we both are able to serve God there. I teach Sunday School and really am blessed by the kids and am thankful for them too. We had a luncheon today after the morning service, for which I made Vegetarian Chili. My Pastor who is also my uncle by marriage eats mostly vegetarian so I thought I would make something he would like to eat. After our luncheon, we watched the film “Monumental”. If you are able to see this film, I encourage you to do so, it was fantastic and very informative about our “real” history in this country. If you have seen it, what did you think of it? I would love to hear your thoughts. I posted my chili recipe in the crock pot recipes, it doesn’t have to be made in the crock pot, but that is how I did this one. Have a great day everyone!!!

Day 2 of being thankful, and pumkins!!!

Snake Rock

Well, I am thankful today for God’s provisions in our life through family. We have needed our back room roof fixed because of leaks, and last night God provided the money to get the supplies we need to fix it before winter sets in. My husbands parents offered to buy the supplies, praise God for them. So, we will be busy getting that taken care of.
Okay, I got my 4 pie pumkins baked and pureed, and strained and bagged for the freezer!!! Making my own pumkin puree is saving us lots of money as well. I paid $5.00 for 4 pie pumkins at the Farmers Market, and in Hannaford Grocery Store it is $2.89 per can of 15oz Farmers Market Organic canned pumkin, so I made equivelant to 6 cans which to buy in the store would have been $17.34. I saved $12.34 doing it myself, and got pumkin juice for soups besides!!! I am happy whenever I can save money like that. Saving pumkins is something I have never done before but with the help of another bloggers post:   I was able to get it done fairly easy. I had bought 4 pie pumkins at a farmers market, and after all is said and done, I was able to store 6 – 15oz pkgs of pumkin and 2 – 2cup pkgs of pumkin juice to use in soups and whatnot…  Local Kitchen is a great blog, she has lots of recipes, how to’s complete with pictures and easy to understand. Click on her link and you will be glad you did! You can click on the link in the post or on my side bar on my home page in blogs I follow. Don’t forget to be thankful for something and have a great day today!!!

Giving Thanks!!!

I am joining Kate over at “Teaching what is good”  ( for 25 days of giving thanks. For the next 25 days or so till Thanksgiving we are counting down to Thanksgiving by “giving thanks” for something everyday. Please join us if you wish.  You can click on the link in this post or her button on my side bar to see her posts. She has a great site. Anyway, I am starting today with my posts as I may have to skip a couple days. If you would like to join us, that would be so great. If you dont have your own blog or want to just comment your giving thanks posts, you can comment here on mine or over at Kate’s blog, or both if you so choose. You can copy this picture for your blog, or do it in your heart, anyway you decide will be fine. Giving thanks is so uplifting and will be a blessing to your heart and soul. God has done so much for us, and so many of the little things we take for granted are really provided to us by God.

I want to start my giving thanks post with thanking God for his protection. This post could not have come at a better time. Yesterday my husband Scott had to go somewhere in his truck, but when he returned and as he was parking his truck, the brake line broke!!! He was safe at home when it happened and I am so thankful for that. Only God knows what would have happened if he was still out driving. My husband is such a wonderful man and I don’t know what I would do without him. So I am thankful to God for not only his protection of my husband, but for my husband as well.

Okay, that was a big one for me! Don’t know what each day will bring but I am sure we can find something to be thankful for every day. You never know, we may just keep going after Thanksgiving with thanking God everyday, of course if we don’t blog it we will be thankful to God in our hearts. So, have a great day today!!!!! God bless you all!

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,and 10, gotta new way

Hello, just thought I’d put out a thought I had.  You know how you count reps when excercising? Well, I don’t know about you, but for some reason I am always losing track of what number I am on. I kept thinking, there has got to be a way to stop having to start over when I counted, then it occurred to me…find a Bible verse with 10 words in it…so I did, and this verse is so appropriate for everything in life including excercise.

I      CAN     DO     ALL     THINGS      THROUGH     CHRIST     WHO

1         2         3          4               5                    6                  7                      8

     STRENGTHENS             ME.                 See………?

             9                                   10

Now instead of losing track of numbers, I just do this verse for each 10 reps of an excercise I am doing, and in the meantime, it keeps me focused on what I am doing and my mind where it should be, on Jesus, who is my strength, because I can’t accomplish anything without Him anyway!!!! Hope this encourages someone today. Have a great day in Him.

ps, the verse is found in Phillipians 4:13

Bunches and bunches of blogs

Hello, I am not real good at this technical stuff on blogging, so it has taken me a few days to do this. I wanted to share all the blogs I follow and also have one place to keep them all in, instead of my email. I got them all on, and will update as I find more that I like. If I am missing yours please let me know and I will “fix” it! The crazy thing to me was, after I got them on I had to go back and edit each one, because I didn’t realized I had to hit the catagory button too, for them to show up, then I had to figure out where to change how many showed up, because they weren’t all showing up like I wanted. Oh, bother! Anyway, I encourage you to check some of them out. I really enjoy this blogging world, so much better than facebook, I actually have been too busy reading blogs to even go on facebook. Finally!! The sun is out today

A fall day

As soon as the fog lifted today so did my spirits, it has been rainy and gloomy here for over a week. Of course I have been checking out your blogs and looking up recipes and writing down recipes, and that has been in itself rewarding, but I missed the sun and getting outside for that fresh fall air you’ve all been talking about. And, finally, today, I was able to just go out and bask in that sunlight!!! Thank God for his provision. Well, today I opened all the windows and doors and made some banana bread and split pea soup and chopped some cabbage that I got a farmers market for coleslaw. Mind you, we probably wont eat all these at one meal, but I was just in the mood to make those things!! The recipes for the banana bread and split pea soup, I put in my recipe page. I hope you all are having a great fall week. Tell me how beautiful is at your place.

A Garden Journal

A Garden Journal.

A Beautiful scene driving home the other day.

It’s been rainy here for days, I would love to see this again, as the clouds go away and the sunset trying to show itself.

I took this photo on the way home last week. Just thought I’d share.
Any one else getting a lot of rain?

For Whole Foods Wednesday

Everyone who is trying to eat healthy knows that store bought sausage is terrible for you, filled with all kinds of preservatives and such, not to mention the fats and cholesterol in them. I have a recipe I use for making Breakfast Sausage Seasoning. It can be used in whatever ground meat you prefer. I use mine in Lean ground turkey, I have tried lean ground beef and it is good too, but I am switching to grass fed beef and have not used it in that yet, mostly because of cost. But ground turkey is pretty reasonable and good for you as well. When you make this and cook it, you can then freeze the sausage and just take it out and cook it as you would frozen from the store. You can shape it into patties (any size you want) or links, or crumbles. I do all three and then add crumbles to scrambled eggs, or on top of homemade pizza, or how ever you please. Here is the recipe:

Breakfast Sausage

1 teaspoon dried sage

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/8 teaspoon dried marjoram

1-1/2 teaspoons organic sugar

1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1/2 pinch ground cloves

1 pound ground turkey or chicken or beef

Just mix everything together and then decide whether you want to make it into patties, or

small rolls or meatballs, or crumbles. You can use it for anything you would use sausage for.

Cook and then use or refreeze for later.

Tomatoes Done!

I fianlly got my pictures on for the tomatoes that I canned last week. I didn’t get a lot of tomatoes this year but enough to can 7 jars of diced tomatoes, and 3 jars of salsa. Next year I want to grow a bigger garden and can more things. I am just learning how to do some of this stuff. I am looking for a good thick homemade spaghetti sauce, if anyone has one? I would like to make that as well and maybe can that too. Any ideas for me to try? Please let me know. Thanks
